Haiti - Politic : The Minister of Interior and of Collectivities advocates the decentralization 28/01/2012 10:52:58
Me Thierry Mayard-Paul, the Minister of Interior, of Territorial Collectivities and National Defense, met last Thursday, the 10 presidents of the association of mayors of the FENAMH (National Federation of Haitian Mayors). Following this meeting, the Minister declared "[...] I am very happy to inform you that the meeting has clearly reflected our common policy of actions and showed us that we are on the right track, it also includes the economic vision of our mayors, of our communities, territorial collectivities and also integrates the governmental economic and policy direction.
You see our government understands very well, that the key of sustainable development in Haiti is to draw a map of development throughout the territory, to then bring this development through the most remote communities and this should do through local initiatives and decentralized cooperation.
As Minister of the Interior and especially as representative of the communities, I am the one who is responsible for driving the vision and its effects. I can not in any way to do it alone, but we are the first drivers of sustainable development, of equitable development. In this sense, we agreed that our work is done in close collaboration with the communities in order to promote the opportunities that will stand up to them. We have also for obligations, to separate, to share this development, the success that we will have in some areas to bring them to other regions and show them how this should be done.
It is only by sharing that success, with all communities, that we will arrive to increase the quality of life of our citizens and allow them a better access to work, which will allow to restore our dignity of people..."
