British musician, best known as the guitarist for Coldplay. Date of Birth: Country: Great Britain |
Johnny Buckland is a British musician, best known as the guitarist for the band Coldplay. He was born in Islington, London and moved to Pantymwyn in North Wales with his family when he was four years old.
Buckland's interest in music was sparked by his older brother, Tim, who is a big fan of My Bloody Valentine. He began playing the guitar at the age of eleven, inspired by The Stone Roses. Buckland attended Alun School in Mold, Wales, before continuing his education at University College London, where he studied mathematics and astronomy. It was during his time at university that he met his future bandmates.
While studying at university, Buckland worked as a school caretaker. His musical tastes were influenced by bands such as Ride, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, and Jimi Hendrix. His playing style incorporates scattered arrangements and the use of slides, and his guitar sound has drawn comparisons to U2 and The Edge. Buckland contributed to Ayhan Macca's solo album "Slideling" and made a cameo appearance in the film "Shaun of the Dead" alongside his bandmate Chris Martin.
Chris Martin often refers to Buckland as "Johnny Boy" during live performances, especially when Buckland is about to play a solo or a long riff. Martin once said, "Without Johnny, there would be no Coldplay." The bond between Martin and Buckland is particularly evident during live performances and interviews. Buckland is the godfather of Martin's daughter, Apple, along with Simon Pegg. He is also a fan of the football club Tottenham Hotspur. He currently resides in London with his wife, jeweler Chloe Lee-Evans, and their daughter, Violet, who was born on November 3,
