Robert G. Maurer, 88, Sackets Harbor
SACKETS HARBOR, NY — Robert “Bob” George Maurer of Sackets Harbor passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2025. He was 88 years old.
Bob was born in Watertown in 1936, the youngest child of Martin and Maria Maurer. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Mary Maurer, Rose Maurer and Katherine Maurer, brother Martin Maurer (Ann Montague) and his former wife Elizabeth Ingersol.
He leaves behind several nieces, nephews and great nieces, along with stepdaughters Tina Schuth (Thomas) and Toni Ingenito (Paul) and six step-grandchildren.
Bob was a graduate of Watertown High School. Bob had the following quote in his yearbook which describes him perfectly: “Friend to all, foe to none.” Bob was also a graduate of SUNY Oswego where he majored in History. He was a history teacher and a substitute teacher in several North Country schools. He worked briefly at General Electric in the Production Control department and in the Town of Clayton Recreation Park. His favorite job was as a beer delivery person to the St. Lawrence River towns where he got to hear and share all the local news, stories and gossip going on at the time.
Bob’s favorite activities and interests were spending time with his step-grandchildren, travel and sports. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling to European historical places, often by himself. He loved meeting and conversing with people throughout his travels and trying different cuisines. He especially enjoyed the ocean cruises.
Bob was a diehard sports fan faithfully following college and professional teams. He loved cheering for his beloved New York Giants and New York Yankees. He particularly enjoyed attending his step-grandchildren’s sports events.
Bob was also an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast. Bob had the following quote in his Watertown High School yearbook which describes him perfectly: “Friend to all, foe to none.”
A private family service will be held this summer.
