Early Life and Family Legacy

Noah Lindsey Beery was born on August 10, 1913, in New York City. His father, Noah Nicholas Beery, known as Noah Beery or Noah Beery Sr., was a notable character actor. Beery's uncle, Wallace Beery, was an Academy Award winner and one of the most acclaimed actors of the era. The three Beery men shared a striking physical resemblance but notably lacked the powerful, resonant voices of their predecessors.

Acting Career: From Childhood to Stardom

Beery's acting debut came at the tender age of seven alongside his father in the 1920 classic "The Mark of Zorro." He went on to appear in numerous films and television series throughout his career, amassing over 170 credits.

In the early years, Beery frequently appeared in Westerns, notably alongside John Wayne in 1934's "The Trail Beyond" and 1948's "Red River." However, it was his role as Joseph "Rocky" Rockford, the father of James Garner's Jim Rockford, in the popular detective series "The Rockford Files" (1974-1980) that propelled him to greater recognition.

Television Appearances

Apart from his role in "The Rockford Files," Beery made appearances in various television shows. He had a weekly role as a clown in the adventure drama "Circus Boy" and replaced Burt Reynolds on the NBC Western series "Riverboat."

Personal Life and Legacy

Beery was married twice, first to Maxine Jones from 1940 to 1966, with whom he had two daughters and a son named Bucklind Beery. After their divorce, he married Lisa Thorman in 1968.

Noah Beery Jr. passed away on November 1, 1994, at the age of 81. He was laid to rest at Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills Cemetery alongside his parents. As a testament to his contributions to television, Beery was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
